Press Release: SEIU Florida Endorses Daisy Morales for State Representative

ORLANDO, Fla. (September 19, 2020) – The Daisy Morales campaign announced today that the North America’s largest labor union, SEIU, has endorsed Supervisor Morales for State Representative of House District 48.

“We are committed to uniting workers to improve the quality of their lives, the services they provide and the communities in which they live and work,” SEIU Florida President Marcus Dixon declared in a written statement. “We believe [Daisy] share[s] a common vision for Florida and the nation – one in which racial justice and the ability to join together in union is central to working families having economic security, rights and a legacy for the next generation.”

Service Employees International Union, a labor union representing almost 2.1 million workers in over 100 occupations in the United States and
Canada, focuses on organizing workers in three sectors: health care, including hospital, home care and nursing home workers; public services; and property services. In Florida, SEIU represents over 55,000 retired and active members who are part of five locals: SEIU Local 1991, 1199 SEIU, SEIU Florida Public Services Union (FPSU), 32BJ SEIU and SEIU Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR).

“I’m honored to receive SEIU’s endorsement,” said Morales. “We value and advocate for many of the same things: affordable housing, fixing the unemployment system and improving Florida’s economy, and making quality healthcare available to all. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and work alongside SEIU Florida to fight for all Floridians.”

After winning the Florida Democratic primary, Morales has racked up endorsements from the top-ranking Democrats in the Florida House of Representatives, Co-Leaders Bobby Dubose (D-District 94, Fort Lauderdale) and Evan Jenne (D-District 99, Dania Beach), and most recently added endorsements from Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried and Congressman Darren Soto.

During the primary election, Representatives John Cortes (D-District 43, Kissimmee) and Bruce Antone (D-District 46, Orlando) also endorsed her for Florida House District 48.

The general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

The campaign will continue to announce more major endorsements soon.
